Zwijnaarde

Johnson & Johnson Obelisc

For the Obelisc project in Zwijnaarde, Johnson & Johnson entrusted our team with designing and installing over 900 m² of GMP-class B, C, and D cleanrooms, along with a dedicated technical area.

We were proud to contribute to this cutting-edge facility, designed for the development and production of cell therapy treatments for certain types of cancer. Despite an ambitious timeline, our team successfully delivered a state-of-the-art cleanroom environment.

A strategic and efficient approach
To meet the tight schedule, we implemented a well-planned approach:

  • Phased execution: We divided the cleanroom area into multiple phases, allowing us to complete sections independently and streamline the workflow.
  • Optimized space utilization: We built the cleanroom’s outer shell first to separate it from office areas, then efficiently installed technology within a compact false ceiling and positioned air handling units, control systems, and panels on the technical floor.
  • Seamless Integration: Key appliances—including refrigerators, biosafety cabinets, pass-through boxes, and cleanroom furniture—were precisely embedded into the design.

Smooth execution
Thanks to our meticulous planning and execution, the commissioning and qualification process went smoothly at every stage.

The outcome? A high-performance cleanroom facility, a successful project delivery, and a delighted customer.

About
This project

Johnson & Johnson is at the forefront of medical innovation, developing advanced therapies to transform patient care. For Johnson & Johnson’s Obelisc project, Jansen Cleanrooms & Labs played a key role in creating a cutting-edge cleanroom facility in Ghent to support the development and production of these life-saving therapies.

CAR-T cell therapy is a breakthrough in cancer treatment, using a patient’s own immune cells to target and destroy cancer. This highly personalized therapy involves extracting T cells, genetically modifying them to recognize cancer cells, and reinfusing them into the body.

By harnessing the power of the immune system, CAR-T therapy offers new hope for patients with certain types of cancer, marking a major advancement in modern medicine. Jansen Cleanrooms & Labs is proud to have contributed to this innovative project, providing a world-class facility that supports the safe and efficient production of these cutting-edge treatments.
